The best family reunions combine one or two shared experiences, optional low-key activities and comfortable meal and conversation time. These gatherings should have enough flexibility for people to separate and reconnect. The Cove at Sylvan Beach is a great location for your [multi-day family reunion by Oneida Lake](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/gatherings/family-reunions). Pontoon boat rides and other watersports, fishing, time on the beach or by the pool, cookouts at our premier cottages and more can give guests of any age something to look forward to. Some relatives can enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Oneida Lake while others fish, paddle, swim or try a faster-paced watersport. ### Take a Pontoon Boat Cruise Everyone Can Enjoy A pontoon outing can function as one of the reunion’s main all-family activities. It gives relatives a shared experience without requiring everyone to be highly active. - You can plan either a morning sightseeing ride or a comfortable evening sunset cruise. - Bring snacks or picnic items where permitted. - Take the primary family group photo on or near the boat. Photos will look best during the sunrise or sunset. - Pair an active watersports outing (tubing, water skiing) with a relaxed cruise. You can rent watersports equipment at Sylvan Beach Supply Co. - Remember to give non-swimmers and less-active relatives a way to experience the lake, like relaxing at the beach. Each [cottage at The Cove at Sylvan Beach](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/cottages) comes with a complimentary pontoon boat, making it easy to get out on the water. ### Go Fishing Across Generations Fishing is an activity that naturally encourages grandparents, parents and children to spend quality time together. - Review approved fishing access points while planning. - Remember to bring fishing poles, bait and tackle. - Review the current New York State fishing license and seasonal requirements. - If you'd like, you can [arrange a private guide](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/sylvan-beach-supply-co/private-bass-fishing-excursion) through The Cove. - If you're fishing with younger children, plan a shorter session. - [Review our Oneida Lake fishing blog](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/destination-cove/oneida-lake/oneida-lake-fishing) for more advice and tips. ### Try Paddleboarding, Kayaking, Canoeing or Water Bikes These exciting activities can appeal to older children, teenagers and active adults who want more independence than a group boat ride provides. - Choose watersports equipment based on balance, experience and comfort. - Make sure the weather conditions are calm before starting. - Use a buddy system for safety purposes. - For beginners, plan a shorter session before trying a longer excursion. - Let family members rotate through the rentals, making sure everyone gets a turn. - Create an informal family photo or a fun family challenge without encouraging unsafe competition. - [Review our paddleboarding blog](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/destination-cove/oneida-lake/paddle-boarding-tips-techniques-oneida-lake) for more advice and tips. ### Add Tubing or Water Skiing for the Thrill Seekers These are optional activities rather than experiences every relative must join. Teenagers and active adults can participate while other relatives enjoy the boat ride, take photos or return to the pool or cottages to unwind. Before starting, make sure to review the following: - Choose the right tube or water skis for the riders. - Inspect the tube, tow rope and boat. - Make sure the tube is properly inflated. - Always wear a proper life jacket or Personal Flotation Device (PFD). - Designate a driver and spotter. - Agree on hand signals before the tubing starts. - Start slow and give the rider plenty of space. - [Review our tubing blog](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/destination-cove/oneida-lake/tubing-on-oneida-lake) for more safety advice and tips. ### Plan a Beach & Swimming Break at Sylvan Beach Head to Sylvan Beach for an outing that includes swimming, wading where permitted, sandcastle building, reading, relaxing, taking family photos and sharing a picnic. The beach is a nearby, family-friendly destination that's an easy addition to your reunion itinerary. Easy Family Reunion Activities Close to the Cottages ---------------------------------------------------- Convenient, laid-back activities are especially useful for larger family reunions. They let families adjust their plans without reorganizing the entire group or loading everyone into separate vehicles. ### Build Free Time Around the Pool Pool time is a flexible activity rather than a formal event: - Children can play and swim with appropriate supervision. - Teenagers can socialize between outings. - Adults can alternate between swimming and relaxing. - Relatives who are not swimming can still spend time nearby. ### Give Younger Children Time at the Playground Children often need shorter, unstructured activity breaks. Playground time can be scheduled before dinner or between lake outings. ### Turn a Cottage Cookout Into a Family Activity [Cottages at The Cove](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/cottages) come with grills that can turn a meal into a memorable reunion activity. Here are some tips to maximize your family cookout: - Assign each family branch a side dish or dessert. - Hold a friendly burger, barbecue or family-recipe competition. - Create a build-your-own meal station. - Let children decorate menus or table signs. The goal is shared participation, not placing all the work on just one organizer. ### Take an Ice Cream or Grab-and-Go Break [Sylvan Beach Supply Co.](https://www.covesylvanbeach.com/sylvan-beach-supply-co) is perfect for an easy break between activities.
